Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Cuiabá Touchdown - Road to the Wet
Land in Cuiabá, cold guaraná in hand, 3-hour van south on the famous Transpantaneira, 120 wooden bridges, caimans sunning every one. Stop for jabiru storks taller than kids. Arrive Porto Jofre late afternoon, floating lodge on the river, check in, sunset beer watching capybaras graze. Dinner grilled picanha, early night, jaguars wait.
Day 2: Jaguar Dawn Patrol
4:30 am coffee, slide into flat-bottom boats, engines whisper quiet. First light, there, spotted cat on the bank dragging a caiman, cameras click like rain. Track three different jaguars before breakfast back at lodge. Afternoon siesta, then more boat time, giant otters wrestling fish.
Day 3: Full Day River Hunt
All day on the water, packed lunch floating, follow radio collars from researchers, spot ocelots napping in trees. Hyacinth macaws screech overhead, hundreds in one flock. Sunset, jaguar mom teaching cubs to swim, unreal. Dinner dockside, fresh dourado fish.
Day 4: Transfer to Southwild - Tower Magic
Morning last boat sweep, then 2-hour drive to Southwild Lodge. Climb 12-meter tower over canopy, eye-level with macaws cracking palm nuts, tapirs lumber below. Lunch under thatch, afternoon horse ride with cowboy guide, spot anteaters.
Day 5: Otter River & Night Safari
Dawn kayak with river otters, pups playing tag around your paddle. Breakfast, then spotlight night drive, armadillos, crab-eating foxes, maybe a puma if lucky. Sleep in treehouse-style rooms, frogs singing loud.
Day 6: Head to Araras - Cowboy Land
Scenic drive, stop at Piuval ranch for cowboy coffee. Arrive Araras Eco-Lodge, real working fazenda, hammocks everywhere. Afternoon cattle round-up on horseback, gauchos show lasso tricks. Dinner campfire, beef slow-roasted on sticks, stories in Portuguese and broken English.
Day 7: Pantanal on Hoof
Full day riding with the hands, cross flooded plains, herons flush in clouds. Picnic under mango trees, siesta in shade. Evening canoe through lily pads, caimans slide off logs. Last night, sing-along with violas, stars so thick you can scoop them.
Day 8: Final Game Drive & Wrap
Morning jeep safari, hunt for maned wolves at dawn, rare as gold. Brunch spread, then chill by pool or photo sort. Farewell dinner, jaguar slideshow on the wall, toast with pinga.
Day 9: Back to Cuiabá
Easy morning, 4-hour transfer north, stop for souvenirs, carved wood capybaras. Airport drop by 2 pm for evening flights. You’ll leave with 3,000 photos and one spotted dream.
